Even more entertaining is watching the drunken crowd skiing down the mountains towards its base once the bars close.
Once the ski slopes are closed (pending no night skiing of course) the après-ski scene begins to heat up. You can get geared up for some beer-chugging at an afterparty with table-top dancing or just spend the evening relaxing with a couple of glasses of wine. One way or the other, here are our choices for the world’s top après-ski destinations.
Garibaldi Lift Co., Colorado – In Whistler, this is the nighttime venue for younger adults and is considered to be best resort bars that stay open all through the year. So don’t let the name of this place fool you. This bar is located at the starting of the gondola and opens every day of the year from 11 am until “late.” Plus, the panoramas of the ski slopes are fantastic. In addition to serving a wide array of tasty pub foods, the bar is usually family oriented until around 8 pm.
Mooserwirt, St. Anton, Austria – although this is usually a quiet dining spot during the daytime, around 3 pm every day, it transforms itself into a bar and club that is nothing short of rowdy. It is by far, best of the world’s funky ski resorts, so don’t be surprised. Even more entertaining is watching the drunken crowd skiing down the mountains towards its base once the bar closes at 8 pm.
Tea Del Vidal, Italy – Located in the scenic Livigno, it is the most popular ski destination in the region partially attributed to its spectacular Italian Alps location. However, the main allure is that it offers a lively and entertaining party scene and caters to a very raucous party crowd. The consensus is that Tea Del Vidal is the #1 destination of après-ski locations and it isn’t too difficult to glean the reason. With DJ’s on the venue every night, the party keeps going until closing time (2 am).
Verbier, Switzerland – Though expensive, you can follow the others with happy hour sessions within the 4 Valleys area villages. Après at the Farinet Bar is considered to be exclusive and skiers may check out the Pub Mont Fort. The most adored aspect of this place is the sliding roof which is opened when it snows so people can dance to the Swedish music bands. Top it up with pizzas at Fer a Cheval.
Le Rond Point, France – located in the heart of Les Trois Vallees (the 3 valleys) is the town of Meribel and is known for the world’s largest ski resort. It also serves as the home of best known French Alps après-ski locations. Le Rond Point is only open for patrons until 7 pm all through the week. But don’t let that fool you. The bar attracts some very large crowds who want to party on the wild side. The bar has great music, a huge dining and terrace, and an excellent restaurant.
